Week 2: Anchored in the Word
Day 10 — How to Read the Bible Daily

Scripture Reading:
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.”
‭‭
Psalms‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
‭‭
Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Devotional Thought
If the Bible is “alive” and we can grow in our trust of it as God’s word, then the next step is to actually engage it. This is where the rubber meets the road, and where many people opt out. Reading the Bible can feel overwhelming when you’re new to it. Remember, let’s just take our next step. One of the most life-changing habits you can develop is reading the Bible a little bit every day. Not to check a box. Not to impress God. But to stay connected to Him — the way a tree stays rooted near a stream.

Psalm 1 says that the person who meditates on God’s Word becomes “like a tree planted by streams of water.” That’s the picture: steady, nourished, growing, anchored.

Daily Bible reading doesn’t need to be complicated or long. It’s not about speed — it’s about connection. Even a few verses, read slowly and thoughtfully, can speak deeply to your heart. God uses His Word to guide your decisions, shape your character, strengthen your faith, and remind you who you are in Christ.

Sidenote: If you are a veteran in reading the Bible because you’ve been following Jesus for years, the following rhythm can be a really refreshing reset. Sometimes coming back to the basics is just what we need to rejuvenate us for the next season.

No matter if you’re new to this or have been engaging the Bible for years, over time, these small daily moments will form deep roots in your life.

A simple rhythm can help:
1. Start small. Choose one short passage.
2. Slow down. Read it once or twice.
3. Notice one phrase. What stands out?
4. Talk to God about it. Ask how it applies to today.
5. Carry it with you. Let one truth stay in your heart.

Reflection Questions
What time of day works best for you to meet with God through His Word, even for a few minutes?

Practice for Today
Choose a short passage (Psalm 23; John 15:1–5; or Philippians 4:4–7).

Read it slowly. Write down or circle one phrase that speaks to you.

Ask God, “How can I live this today?”
