Week 1: Anchored in Jesus
(Hope, Salvation & Identity)
Day 6 — The Anchor of Hope
Scripture Reading:
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,”
Hebrews 6:19 NIV
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 NIV
Devotional Thought
Most of us know what it’s like to hope for something that doesn’t pan out — a relationship, a job, a season of life we thought would finally make things feel settled. We hope, we wait, and sometimes we’re left disappointed. That’s because most of the things we anchor our hope to are temporary. They shift. They change. They fail.
The Bible talks about a different kind of hope — not wishful thinking, not blind optimism, but something steady and secure. It describes hope as an anchor for the soul. An anchor doesn’t stop the storm, but it keeps you from being swept away by it.
This kind of hope isn’t based on how strong you are or how well life is going. It’s anchored in who God is — faithful, present, and unchanging. When everything around you feels uncertain, God remains steady. When your emotions fluctuate, His promises don’t.
Hope in Jesus doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine. It means trusting that even when life feels unstable, you’re not drifting alone. God is holding you fast.
And the more you learn to place your trust in Him, the more you’ll notice something shift inside you — a quiet confidence, a deeper peace, a steadiness that wasn’t there before.
That’s the kind of hope that holds.
Reflection Question
Where in your life do you most need something steady to hold you right now?
Practice for Today
Take a quiet moment and pray:
“God, anchor my heart in You today.”
Notice what you’re carrying, and imagine placing that weight into His hands.
