Scripture Reading:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NIV
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
Acts 2:1-4 NIV
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!””
Luke 11:13 NIV
Devotional Thought
Have you ever hit a point where trying harder just doesn’t work anymore?
You’re doing the right things, putting in the effort, showing up—but you’re still tired, stuck, or stretched thin. That’s often the moment we discover something important: willpower alone isn’t enough.
Trying harder on your own won’t cut it. Following Jesus isn’t about willpower or grinding through life—it’s about living in the power God gives through His Spirit.
Before Jesus went back to heaven, He told His followers, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” (Acts 1:8). This isn’t about hype or flashy experiences—it’s the ability to live faithfully, love beyond your limits, face challenges, and share your life with others courageously.
Acts 2 shows the first followers being filled with the Spirit. It didn’t replace who they were—it gave them strength for life and mission. That same Spirit is available to you today. God wants to fill you, equip you, and empower you—over and over again.
Luke 11:13 says it clearly: if you ask, God gives the Spirit generously. You don’t have to figure it all out first. You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to open your heart and ask.
Practice for Today
Take a quiet moment and pray:
“Holy Spirit, empower me today. Fill me anew for everything You are calling me to do.”
Stay open and expectant—God loves to answer this.
