Scripture Reading:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Devotional Thought

Everyone builds their life around something. For some, it’s work. For others, it’s relationships, experiences, money, freedom, or just trying to be a good person. We all pick an anchor—something we hope will hold us steady.

The problem is that most of those anchors don’t last. Jobs change. Relationships break. Success doesn’t satisfy like we thought it would. And if we’re honest, we don’t always trust ourselves to get it right. When life gets shaky—or when we mess up—we feel how fragile those anchors really are.

This is where Jesus is different.

The message of Christianity isn’t “try harder” or “clean yourself up.” It’s that God saw us at our worst and came toward us anyway. Jesus didn’t wait for people to believe the right things or behave the right way. He stepped into human life, took on suffering, and went to the cross to show us what God’s love actually looks like—up close, personal, and costly.

Following Jesus starts with trust. Trusting that you are wanted, not tolerated. Forgiven, not written off. Loved, not because you earned it, but because God chose you. Anchoring your life in Jesus means letting His love—not your performance, past, or potential—be what defines you.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Why would Jesus want anything to do with me?” the answer is simple: He already does. And He came looking for you long before you ever thought about looking for Him.

Practice for Today

Take two minutes. Write down one honest reason you’re curious about or open to following Jesus right now. No spiritual language needed—just be real. This is you setting your first anchor.

Reflection Question

What have you been relying on to hold your life together? How does it look different to trust Jesus as your anchor?
